Our Own New Website

Wednesday, 11 April 2007

Our new website boasts a lot of content and functionality that will improve our services to our clients and make researching our services easier for potential clients. Here's the list of updates and additions we've made in this update:

  • New logo. In response to client feedback we revised our logo and changed the layout and the font. Our new logo is more visually appealing and more clear. We've done our best to update it in the many places where it appears. See our article on the many places where logos can be used.
  • Design. We heavily customised a new and modern template to provide a website design consistent with our purpose and our image.
  • Structure. We wrote out all our content and considered alternatives for structuring it within our website. An obvious and logical structure naturally arose which we adopted and implemented. We believe it makes finding information on our website more straight-forward.
  • Service Information. We've written out everything we think potentiail clients - and even existing clients - could want to know about our services. The detail includes our packages and pricing, our development processes, and the agreement details. This will shorten and clarify our sales process with all the relevant information available up-front and in writing.
  • Service Questionnaires. These questionnaires replace our previous method of emailing documents back and forth. Now new clients and existing clients requiring additional services can easily provide all the information we require to get started. It's simple, fast and efficient, and we can easily make improvements based on feedback of our clients' experiences.
  • Support Manuals. We've re-written our support manuals to update, expand and refine their content. Rather than being in document form they're now online making it easy for our clients and us to always be using the latest version. The updates and additions will also make managing their services easier for our clients.
  • Feedback. We have formalised our feedback process with the development of an online feedback form streamlining the feedback process.
  • Portfolio. We've taken all the websites and designs we've created them and filled up a portfolio. This gives potential clients a better idea of our services, designs and capabilities. We've also included a new section for our projects.
  • Search Enging Optimisation. We put all our knowledge and tools from our Search Engine Optimisation add-on package to the test with our new website. This was both an exercise to test and expand this service, and to increase the popularity of our site in the rankings of popular search engines. An added benefit of this work is that our page addresses are now more simple and logical, making it easier for us to direct people to specific pages or sections of our website.

All of the new and updated content has made this a large project. Managing this quantity of work while servicing exising and new clients has been challenging and more than once it has stretched out our publishing timeframe. However, we consider it a wise investment given what it will do for our efficiency and the positive impact for our clients.

Our website is built with the same system as the sites of our clients. Working with the system as much as we did to create this website we learned some new tricks and superior methods for completing certain tasks. We integrated this information into our processes and systems as we went, also ensuring we kept the manuals up-to-date with the new improvements.

We're very proud of our new website, but as is the pattern with our operations, we're not going to stop here. We have some improvements and additional functionality already in the planning stages, including:

  • a customisation feature for our online manuals
  • an attractive and dynamic display page for our portfolio content
  • a seamless language translation technology

As with all parts of our business, we're keen to hear opinions and ideas from our clients and others. Please let us know your thoughts on our new website using the comments function on this article or the new feedback form.
